# Mark the chart they mean

Feedback in a separate thread is how the dashboard dies in a DM. Comments belong on the artifact.

A published dashboard that collects feedback in Slack is still an attachment, just one step later. The comment is about “the third chart.” Nobody can see which third chart. The next export arrives. The thread is about a version that no longer exists.

## On the bytes, on the version

Viewers mark the chart they mean. The note is pinned to a selector, a snippet, and a version. Republish and the old thread still makes sense, because it is attached to version 2, not to “the site.” Resolve it when the number is fixed.

The raw subdomain stays byte-identical to the upload. Comments live in a shell around it, not injected into the file. If the publisher does not want a shell, they turn it off. The address does not change.

## Why this is not a document editor

We host and annotate artifacts. We do not author them. The file comes from a notebook, a design tool, a static export. Review is the reason the team comes back after the URL exists.

[Gallery, versions, and comments](/#review) are the product after publish. [Drop a file](/login) and see the shell.
