How to turn a ChatGPT canvas into a shareable web page
Guides ·
ChatGPT's canvas can render React and HTML in a sandbox, so you can see the page it wrote while you work on it. OpenAI's help center describes sharing a canvas asset much as you would share a conversation. A shared conversation is a snapshot, and anyone with the link can view it and pass it on.
That is fine for a quick look. When the page should live at an address that keeps working, shows the latest version, and opens only for the right people, publish it.
Publish from ChatGPT with the connector
ChatGPT can publish to Publidock over MCP. It needs a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education plan.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
- Open
chatgpt.com/pluginsand press +. - Name it Publidock, choose a public endpoint, paste
https://app.publidock.com/mcp, and sign in when asked.
Then ask ChatGPT to publish the page. It asks before each publish, and returns the link with who can open it.
Or copy the code into a file
- In canvas, copy the code.
- If it is HTML, save it as
index.html. If it is a React component, ask ChatGPT for “a single self-contained HTML file that loads React from a CDN and renders this component”, then save that. - Open the file in your browser once. If it works there, it will work published.
- Drop it on Publidock, choose who can open it, preview, and go live.
A page that calls an outside API still works once published: the browser makes the request, as on any website. A page that needs a server of its own does not. Publidock serves files and runs no code on a server. Share a vibe-coded prototype lists what works and what does not.
Keep secrets out of the page
Anything in the HTML or JavaScript can be read by anyone who can open the page. If ChatGPT put an API key in the code, replace it with one that is meant for browsers, or remove the call. Access rules decide who opens the page. They do not hide what is inside it.
Update without a new link
When ChatGPT revises the page, publish the new file to the same site. People who already have the link see the new version, and you can bring back an earlier one in a click. The comparison with ChatGPT's sharing has the details and sources.
